NATURAL LIME BASED FINISHES
Lime based finishes are made from natural limestone, one of the earth’s most abundant and enduring materials. Limestone is quarried, kiln-fired to form quick lime, then slaked with water to create lime putty or hydrate. These time-honored products are blended with natural minerals and earth pigments to create finishes that are breathable, beautiful, and deeply connected to nature. Over time, natural lime finishes continue to mature through a process called carbonation. As lime reacts with carbon dioxide in the air, it gradually forms calcium carbonate — the same mineral found in stone — creating a finish that becomes harder, more durable, and uniquely its own.
LIMEWASH
Limewash is one of the oldest architectural finishes in the world, used for centuries on Mediterranean homes, European villas, churches, courtyards, and historic buildings long before modern synthetic paints existed. It begins with limestone—stone transformed by fire and water into lime, then blended with natural mineral and earth pigments to create colors that feel inherently connected to the materials of the earth. Applied traditionally in thin layers with a broad mineral brush, limewash does not create the perfectly uniform film associated with conventional acrylic or latex paint. Instead, overlapping brushwork and natural variations in absorption produce a deeply matte surface with soft, cloud-like movement, subtle shifts in tone, and a remarkable sense of depth. As daylight moves through a space, the finish changes with it—quiet and soft in diffuse light, more expressive when light travels across the surface. Its palette can range from warm limestone whites, sand and ochre to clay, terracotta, muted greens, soft grays, and deeper earth tones, while different layering and brush techniques allow the character to move from clean and contemporary to richly aged and distinctly Old World. Limewash can be used both inside and outside, transforming properly prepared brick, stone, stucco, plaster, masonry, and interior walls into surfaces that feel like part of the architecture rather than simply painted over. And unlike a synthetic coating that merely dries, traditional lime undergoes carbonation, reacting with carbon dioxide in the air and gradually forming calcium carbonate again—the mineral found in limestone. In a beautiful sense, stone becomes lime, lime becomes a finish, and the finish becomes mineral again. With time, the surface can continue to mature and develop a natural patina, giving limewash something ordinary paint rarely possesses: the ability to become more interesting as it ages.
LIME SLURRY
Lime Slurry occupies a beautiful place between limewash and plaster—a mineral finish with enough body to soften masonry while still allowing the architecture beneath it to remain visible. Made with lime and fine mineral aggregates, the material is applied by brush in substantial layers, working into the pores, joints, and natural irregularities of the surface. Unlike the thinner, more translucent character of traditional limewash, Lime Slurry creates greater texture, opacity, and physical depth. It is particularly expressive on brick. Sharp edges become softer, mortar joints can visually recede, and the individual units begin to read as a more continuous architectural surface. Yet the brick is not completely erased. Its shape, imperfections, and history remain quietly present beneath the finish. The result can range from restrained and contemporary to heavily textured and distinctly Old World. Depending on application technique and the existing masonry, Lime Slurry can evoke the walls of Mediterranean houses, European courtyards, aged garden walls, and hand-finished masonry that appears to have evolved naturally over generations. While brick is perhaps its most recognizable application, Lime Slurry can also be used on compatible porous mineral surfaces including stone, masonry, concrete block, and properly prepared stucco. Because it remains vapor permeable, it works with mineral substrates rather than simply sealing them beneath a synthetic film. Like other traditional lime finishes, it develops its character through material, application, light, and time. Brush movement remains subtly visible. Texture catches daylight differently throughout the day. Small variations become part of the surface rather than imperfections that need to be hidden. Lime Slurry does not simply change the color of masonry. It changes the way the masonry is perceived—softening separate pieces of stone and brick into one quiet, mineral architecture.
LIME PLASTER
Lime Plaster is a natural mineral finish made from lime, fine aggregates, water, and mineral pigments. Used for centuries in architecture, it brings the depth and character of traditional plaster into contemporary interiors. Applied by hand in carefully worked layers, Lime Plaster can range from softly textured and organic to smooth, refined, and almost stone-like. Subtle trowel movement and tonal variation give the surface a natural depth that changes as light moves across the room. Unlike conventional paint, which creates a uniform film over the wall, Lime Plaster becomes part of the surface itself. Color, texture, and material work together, creating walls that feel quieter, richer, and more architectural. It is especially suited to living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, entryways, feature walls, fireplace surrounds, and large continuous interior surfaces. When used within a compatible mineral system, it remains vapor permeable while retaining the natural character of lime. Because every surface is shaped by hand, slight variations in tone, texture, and trowel movement are part of its beauty. No two walls are exactly alike. Lime Plaster transforms an ordinary wall into a material surface— shaped by lime, the hand of the artisan, and the changing light of the space.
MARMORINO
Marmorino is a traditional Italian lime finish made from lime putty and finely ground marble. Its name comes from the Italian word marmo — “marble” — reflecting the stone-like character of the finish. Refined through centuries of Italian craftsmanship, it is applied by hand in thin layers and carefully compressed with a trowel. This creates a surface that is smoother and finer than Lime Plaster while preserving the natural movement of lime. Its defining quality is its stone-like character. Marmorino can resemble honed limestone or finely worked marble: dense, elegant, and softly luminous rather than uniformly glossy. Compression controls the final appearance. Some areas catch the light with a gentle sheen while others remain quieter and more matte, giving the surface natural depth without the dramatic polish of Venetian Plaster. Because every surface is shaped by hand, subtle variations in tone, movement, and sheen are part of the finish. No two installations develop exactly alike. Lime Plaster celebrates texture. Venetian Plaster celebrates polish. Marmorino lives between them — smoother, finer, and unmistakably stone-like.
VENETIAN PLASTER
Venetian Plaster is a traditional Italian lime finish made from lime putty and finely ground marble. Developed through centuries of decorative plaster craftsmanship, it became known for creating remarkably smooth surfaces with the depth and elegance of polished stone. Applied by hand in multiple thin layers, the material is carefully compressed and burnished with a trowel. Each layer becomes tighter and smoother, gradually building the depth, movement, and refined surface associated with classic Venetian finishes. Its defining quality is its polished marble-like appearance. Unlike the earthy texture of Lime Plaster or the softer stone character of Marmorino, Venetian Plaster creates a much smoother, more compressed surface with greater visual depth and reflectivity. Depending on the degree of burnishing, the finish can range from a soft satin sheen to a highly polished surface. Light moves through the subtle variations between layers, creating the illusion of depth rather than simply sitting on top of the wall. Because every layer is applied and polished by hand, natural variations in movement, tone, and reflection remain part of the finished surface. No two installations develop exactly alike. Lime Plaster celebrates texture. Marmorino celebrates stone. Venetian Plaster celebrates polished marble — smooth, deep, and naturally reflective.
TADELAKT
Tadelakt is a traditional Moroccan lime plaster known for its smooth, seamless surface and natural resistance to water. Originating in Morocco and historically associated with hammams, baths, and traditional architecture, it combines an ancient lime-based technique with a distinctive hand-polished appearance. Applied by hand in multiple layers, Tadelakt is carefully compressed and polished with a smooth stone. The surface is traditionally treated with olive-oil soap, which reacts with the lime and helps create its characteristic water-resistant finish. Its defining quality is its soft, seamless stone-like surface. Unlike the earthy texture of Lime Plaster, the refined stone character of Marmorino, or the polished marble appearance of Venetian Plaster, Tadelakt has a softer, more organic presence with subtle movement and gently rounded transitions. Rather than appearing perfectly flat or highly reflective, the surface retains the marks and movement of hand application. Light travels softly across it, creating depth and variation without a mirror-like polish. Its seamless character makes Tadelakt especially suited to bathrooms, showers, powder rooms, backsplashes, fireplaces, and other architectural surfaces where continuous mineral finishes create a sculptural effect. Because Tadelakt is shaped, compressed, and polished entirely by hand, subtle variations in tone, movement, and sheen are an essential part of its character. No two surfaces develop exactly alike. Lime Plaster celebrates texture. Marmorino celebrates stone. Venetian Plaster celebrates polished marble. Tadelakt celebrates seamless stone — soft, sculptural, and naturally water-resistant.
NATURAL SILICATE-BASED FINISHES
Silicate-based finishes are mineral coatings built around potassium silicate — also known as waterglass — that chemically bond with compatible mineral substrates through a process called silicification. The finish becomes part of the surface, creating a highly breathable, weather-resistant coating with exceptional color stability and depth. Designed to endure and become one with the architecture.
POTASSIUM SILICATE
KEIM GRANITAL®
A traditional mineral coating for exterior masonry and mineral substrates. Granital uses potassium silicate to penetrate and chemically bond with the surface, becoming part of the masonry through silicification. This mineral bond creates a finish that remains highly permeable to vapor, yet naturally resistant to driving rain and harsh weather. Its appearance is mineral and matte, with nuanced variations that preserve the character of the underlying architecture. Inorganic mineral pigments are naturally lightfast, delivering remarkable color stability over time. Ideal for stucco, masonry, brick, concrete, natural stone, and historic exteriors where breathability, permanence, and authenticity are essential. Granital becomes part of the mineral substrate — not just a surface coating.
